July 26, 2010 Local 700 Fights JTDC Educational Requirement Teamsters Local 700 filed an appeal on July 22 in response to the educational requirement that was filed by Juvenile Temporary Detention Center Interim Director Earl Dunlap. "The Local Union is moving full speed ahead in an effort to prevent the interim director from moving forward with his plan," said Becky Strzechowski, Assistant Trustee for Local 700. Dunlap has established a policy, which requires counselors to have a bachelor's degree. The problem is that the policy doesn't take into account experience, said William P. Logan, Assistant Trustee for Local 700. "The policy leaves out the fact that there are JTDC counselors who have successfully performed this very difficult job for many years and it's an injustice to not take that into consideration," Logan said. As more information becomes available, the Local Union will give it to members.
