Teamsters Local 700 Fights JTDC Director's Staff Plan

Teamsters Local 700 is fighting JTDC Interim Director Earl Dunlap's implementation of new staff requirements. Dunlap is creating preconditons, which do not favor incumbent JTDC counselors. Therefore, the union is appealing the federal court's order to permit Dunlap to initiate his plan.

The new staff prerequisites, which were given the green light by the federal court in July, require all incumbent JTDC counselors without bachelor's degrees to take an IMPACT test. If they pass the test, they must go through an interview process. If they make it through the interview process, they receive six weeks of training. If they pass the training, they keep their jobs contingent on the fact that they earn their bachelor's degrees.

"Dunlap is creating three avenues for our incumbent members to lose their jobs," said William P. Logan, Assistant Trustee for Local 700.
"You're telling me that 25 years of experience on the job doesn't count for anything?" Logan said. "Our senior counselors could be teaching the training. This is an insult to our counselors."

Becky Strzechowski, Assistant Trustee for Local 700, agreed.

"This hoop-jumping is just a way to eliminate senior counselors who are good at their jobs and are passionate about the kids at JTDC," said Strzechowski. "Dunlap's decision is personal because it's impacting our members, our brothers and sisters."
