Local 700 Get Motor Pool Truck Driver $21,000 in Backpay
After Teamsters Local 700 spent months pursuing a wrongful termination grievance, an arbitrator recently ruled in Rafael Silva's favor, ordering the City of Chicago Department of Aviation to give him more than $20,000 in backpay and return him to the list of Motor Pool Truck Drivers.
Silva said the hard work of Local 700 business representative Ramon Williams made the difference.
"It was a longshot, but Ramon kept pursuing it. They wrongly terminated me without due process, and they didn't look into the actual facts or try to get both sides of the story," Silva said.
"But Ramon kept pushing and his persistence and due diligence actually paid off."
Silva was wrongly terminated on Nov. 9, 2009, and the arbitrator's decision was handed down on June 22, 2010.
The City of Chicago Department of Aviation has been ordered to give Silva backpay accumulated between Dec. 8, 2009 and March 31, 2010.
