Sept. 3, 2010 Local 700 Ensures Backpay for Hundreds of its City of Chicago Employees "Our members were guaranteed this raise and we're pleased that the city followed through on its end," said Local 700 Assistant Trustee William P. Logan. "We understand that the U.S. unemployment rate climbed up in August for the first time in four months to 9.6 percent," said Logan. "Local 700 is doing its job by ensuring that public employees throughout the state of Illinois, including the City of Chicago, have jobs and are paid fairly. " Local 700 Assistant Trustee Becky Strzechowski agreed. "They are the guys picking up your garbage. They are the guys salting your streets. They are the backbone of our city," said Strzechowski. "This backpay is a means of affording that mortgage payment or college tuition bill." |
