Sept. 28, 2010 Local 700 Secures Raises for Mokena Police After negotiating with the Village of Mokena, the union reached an agreement, which expires on June 30, 2011, and includes raises over that two-year period, retroactive to 2009, and step increases. "It also includes an assurance of no layoffs of our members through the term of the agreement, which is the most significant piece of this contract," said Local 700 Trustee John T. Coli. "Job security is of utmost importance to our members in this shaky economy." Local 700 Assistant Trustee William P. Logan agreed, adding that it's also important for the Village of Mokena. "It's not only ensuring jobs for our members, it's ensuring safety for the residents of Mokena," Logan said. The union also put a cap on the insurance co-payment going forward. "Capping benefit costs and securing long-term coverage are paramount to all our Local 700 members," said Local 700 Assistant Trustee Becky Strzechowski.
