Dec. 16, 2010 The most significant contract change would be in regards to promotions, which would be given based on seniority. "Because of the previous promotion system, we have clerks with 30 years of service who have never even had the opportunity to advance," said John T. Coli, Trustee of Local 700. "This new contract language would reward members for their loyalty and longevity." Currently, promotions are given only within job titles — for example, a File Clerk 1 could only move into a File Clerk 2 position. The new tentative agreement would allow for promotions between job titles based on seniority within the bargaining unit. "Members would not be required to accept promotions, but at least the decision would now rest with them," said William P. Logan, Local 700 Assistant Trustee. "Members would have more opportunities for promotions. Isn't that what we all want — to be given a chance?" The next contract negotiation session will be held sometime in January. Bonnie Lord Appointed as Acting Chief Union Steward Lord brings with her more than 15 years of experience in the clerk's office, making her well-equipped to handle member grievances and other issues in the workplace. Most recently, Lord worked in the County's Criminal Department, preparing bond files for future hearings. "We are confident that Bonnie will thrive in this position," said Becky Strzechowski, Local 700 Assistant Trustee. "She has thrown herself completely into her work, and in a very short time, she already has made an impact as the chief union steward."
