Master Sergeant Dave Taylor Critically Injured in On-Duty Accident Near Springfield
Teamsters Local 700 member and Illinois State Police Master Sergeant Dave Taylor was critically injured in an on-duty crash near Springfield last week. Taylor has been with the Teamsters since 2008 and has been with the Illinois State Police for roughly 20 years.
"Our thoughts go out to Dave and his family during this unimaginably hard time," said John T. Coli, Local 700 Trustee. "Dave's a Teamster, and Teamsters are fighters. We will certainly be hoping for his recovery."
A benefit fund has been established at the Illinois State Police Federal Credit Union to help Taylor's family offset medical and travel expenses as they make arrangements to be by his side every day.
"Teamsters stick together like family members do, so I'm not surprised in the least at the outpouring of help from fellow members," said William P. Logan, Local 700 Assistant Trustee.
Taylor, an avid traveler and St. Louis Cardinals fan, helped establish the motorcycle unit within the Illinois State Police and is the Motorcycle Unit Team Leader for all of southern Illinois.
"In one year, roughly 25 percent of tickets issued statewide came from motorcycle units, and Dave was instrumental in creating that success," said Becky Strzechowski, Local 700 Assistant Trustee.
Those who wish to make a donation to the Dave Taylor Benefit Fund can mail checks, made out to the name of the fund, to:
