Feb. 1, 2011 Teamsters Local 700 Trustee John T. Coli announced Tuesday, Jan. 25, that Local 700 will endorse Rahm Emanuel for Mayor of Chicago along with Joint Council 25. The announcement comes after Local 700 conducted an extensive poll of members living in Chicago, the results of which heavily favored Emanuel. "When 55 percent of our members who live in Chicago favor Rahm, that says something," said Coli. "It says our membership is craving a strong mayor who will get Chicago back on track and ensure their liveliness as Teamsters." Here results of the poll, which was conducted over two weeks, are broken down by percentage:
"The number of people who participated in this poll shows that not only are our members ready and willing to be politically active, they are demanding a person who is ready for the challenges that come with being Mayor of Chicago," said Becky Strzechowski, Local 700 Assistant Trustee. Local 700's endorsement came at a time when Emanuel's campaign was facing challenges regarding his residency. The Illinois State Supreme Court ruled on Thursday, Jan. 27, that Emanuel will remain on the ballot.
