Local 700 Member Dies Clearing Blizzard Aftermath in Chicago

Teamsters Local 700 member William King, 59, died on the job of a heart attack Saturday Feb. 5. King, who worked for the Streets and Sanitation Department as a garbage man, was following his normal route through several alleys. He was shoveling snow near the truck on Chicago's north side when the heart attack occurred.

"This terrible tragedy has affected all of us," said John T. Coli, Local 700 Trustee. "During one of the worst blizzards Chicago has ever seen, our members stayed committed to their jobs, some working over
12-hour shifts. That dedication makes this loss that much worse."

King had been a member of the Teamsters since January 2000. Funeral services will be held on Friday, Feb. 11 from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Colonial-Wojciechowski Funeral Home at 6250 N. Milwaukee Ave in Chicago, which employs Teamster Local 727-represented funeral directors, embalmers and livery drivers.
