Feb. 17, 2011 Teamsters Local 727 business representative Carmen Olmetti (center), shown here with union valet members at the Palmer House, is running for alderman of Chicago's 43rd Ward. Teamsters Local 700 has proudly endorsed Carmen Olmetti, a Teamsters Local 727 business agent and resident of Lincoln Park, as candidate for 43rd Ward Alerman. "The 43rd Ward needs a representative who understands how residents, businesses and government contribute to development and quality of life in Chicago," said Olmetti, who began his Teamsters career as an intern for Joint Council 25, assisting its political, organizing and legislative departments before joining Local 727 in 2008. "As a business representative, I have worked at the intersection of labor, business and government. I've gained a first-hand appreciation for how thoughtful, properly executed development strategies can make or break a business, an industry or a neighborhood." Olmetti was raised in Melrose Park, graduating from Immaculate Conception High School in Elmhurst. He earned an accountancy degree and a Certificate of International Relations from Arizona State University, and a masters in accountancy from the University of Illinois at Chicago. "With my background in economics and as a business representative, I understand how important the interaction between government, private enterprise and labor is to the development of vibrant neighborhoods," Olmetti said. "And with my education in business, I understand the challenges that entrepreneurs face as they work to grow the local economy." Following his passion for political organizing and outreach, Olmetti worked closely with Gov. Pat Quinn during his recent campaign. "Put simply, I have the fresh ideas, unified vision and unflagging energy to represent the 43rd Ward at this critical time," Olmetti said. "I look forward to the honor of serving as alderman." Teamsters Local 700 has also endorsed many other candidates for the Chicago Municipal election. Members can download the full list below. |
