Clerks Overwhelmingly Accept Contract Proposal
In a vote count held July 5, Cook County Circuit Court Clerks accepted the tentative contract proposal with a 67 percent majority.
"These members who took the time to vote were also saying they understand the importance of voicing their opinions and having an active interest in the local," said William P. Logan, Local 700 Assistant Trustee.
Thirty-one percent rejected the contract and 2 percent of the ballots were spoiled. Local 700 officials used a mail-in ballot format.
"We chose the mail-in ballot so all members, regardless of vacation or sick time, would have a fair chance to participate in union business," said John T. Coli, Local 700 Trustee.
The accepted contract summary includes the following points:
· Employees may request a block of vacation time up to whatever number of weeks of vacation that employee accrues in one year.
· During the first two weeks of December every year, vacation selections will be for full week increments only.
· Upon written request, all bidders for a job posting will be allowed to view and copy all of their evaluations.
· The number of bidded positions has been reduced to seven.
· All other job classifications will be semi-automatic, which will be awarded to the senior most employees in the lower grade position in each division.
· Semi-automatic position vacancies will be filled within 60 days of vacancy where funding is available.
· Records Center summer hours will be
6 a.m.-1 p.m.
· Use of subcontracted temporary employees is limited to two weeks and does not result in the displacement or layoff of bargaining unit employees.
·Employees temporarily assigned to a special project at another location will remain eligible for overtime at their regular work location and also will receive 10 calendar days notice of change of hours.
· Investigations of employees will be initiated in a timely manner.
"Not only did we secure wage increases for our members, we were able to maintain health insurance benefits at a time when many employers across the state are making cuts in that area," said John T. Coli, Local 700 Trustee.

Register at No-Cost for Illinois Teamster License Plates
Teamsters Joint Council 25 needs 1,500 applications to establish the first-ever specialty license plates honoring Teamster men and women across Illinois.
Teamster members and supporters simply need to complete the attached application form and return it to the Joint Council to secure the new license plates. Joint Council 25 will cover a $25 registration fee for the first 1,500 applicants and help members get one step closer to taking their union pride on the road.
"The Teamsters license plate not only reminds everyone on the road of the strength of our union, but it offers Illinois drivers a special designation to call their own," said Coli.

After Joint Cou

Applicants will be notified when plates become available. It will only cost $15 for applicants to pick up their final license plates.
Teamsters and supporters have until Oct. 29, 2011, to return completed applications to the Joint Council. Completed forms may be faxed to (847) 292-1412 or e-mailed to Will Petty at will@chicagoteamsters.org.
