December 2, 2011 Cook County Clerks Vote Down Furlough Days Just days after the 2012 Cook County budget was released, Cook County Circuit Clerks voted against furlough days. This vote means a total of 69 layoffs will take place in the Clerk’s office– down by 50 percent thanks to tireless negotiating by Local 700 representatives. “Layoffs are never a good thing, we all know that,” said William P. Logan, Local 700 Assistant Trustee. “The best we can do with a situation like the one in Cook County is try and eliminate furlough days and reduce layoffs to the bare minimum. We fought for that, and that’s what our members voted for.” 614 members voted to accept 69 union layoffs and zero furlough days. |
