February 2, 2012 MTD Work Returned to Local 700 Members Teamsters Local 700 has won a jurisdictional grievance against the City of Chicago – a win that will give back work to Local 700-represented Motor Truck Drivers (MTDs). “This is an important win for us,” said William P. Logan, Local 700 President. “Not only does this return work to our members, it also breaks a long-standing pattern of the City of Chicago taking away our member’s hard-earned work.” The grievance dealt with Laborers driving trucks that MTDs traditionally drove for the SWAP program. The City oversees this program by way of picking up trash, cutting grass and brush clean up. Business Agent Joe Belli and Vice President/Business Agent Vince Tenuto worked with Attorney and Business Agent Kevin Camden on this case. The award states that the City is directed to assign the driving of the two SWAP pickup trucks with attached port-a-potties to SWAP sites to Local 700-represented MTDs as soon as possible and no later than February 20. |
