Teamsters Local 700 Welcomes New Law Enforcement Members
Teamsters Local 700 is proud to welcome the following units and members to its ever-growing membership of public employees, many of whom work in law enforcement.
Waukegan Lieutenants
Teamsters Local 700-represented members working as Lieutenants in Waukegan ratified their first Teamster contract on January 16.
Business Agent Barb Cornett worked with the bargaining committeeand other Local 700 representatives and attorneys to retain benefits threatening to be lost and to avoid layoffs proposed by the City.
Braidwood Police Deparment
Eleven Braidwood Police Officers unanimously voted to join Local 700 on Sept. 9. After receiving unsatisfactory contract negotiation results from their previous union, MAP, the members took it into their own hands. Braidwood is located roughly 60 miles southwest of Chicago.
"Now we know that we have someone on our side that's willing to fight for us," said Jack McCasland, new Local 700 member who has been with the department for nine years.
"It seemed like MAP was fighting for MAP. Now we have someone fighting for what we want."
Local 700 representative Barb Cornett immediately began meeting with these new members, along with other Local 700 representatives and attorneys, to negotiate their first Teamster contract.
