Teamsters Local 700 Condemns Vicious Attack on Cook County Correctional Officer
PARK RIDGE, ILL. – Last night, shocking new footage was reported of an attack on Blair Pacatte, a dedicated Cook County Sheriff’s Deputy who was brutally assaulted in the line of duty on March 17. Teamsters Local 700 is outraged and deeply saddened by the violent attack on one of our members, an officer who was simply performing their job protecting the public and maintaining order within the Cook County Jail and now faces a long road to recovery after suffering serious injuries.
“This is not just an attack on one of our members, it’s an attack on every frontline worker who risks their life daily to ensure public safety,” said Local 700 President Ramon Williams. “The violence our officers face behind those walls is unacceptable and must be addressed with urgency and seriousness by the County.”
The attack, which took place in Division 9 of the Cook County Jail, was avoidable and unnecessary. Local 700 is calling on the Cook County Sheriff’s Office to conduct a full investigation into the incident and immediately implement stronger measures to protect correctional staff, including increased staffing and resources for officers on the job and more stringent consequences for assaults on correctional officers.
“We demand accountability. Our members are not expendable,” said Williams. “They are fathers, mothers, sisters, and brothers doing an often thankless and dangerous job. Cook County must do better by them.”
Teamsters Local 700 stands in full solidarity with our CCDOC officers and their families and will provide all necessary support during this difficult time. We will not rest until justice is served and meaningful reforms are made to prevent this from happening again.
