This week at the International Brotherhood of Teamsters' 31st Convention in Las Vegas, delegates voted to reelect Sean O'Brien and Fred Zuckerman to another five-year term as General President and General Secretary-Treasurer. The O'Brien-Zuckerman slate ran unopposed after no challengers met the constitutional threshold required to contest the election.
The 1,572 convention delegates were elected by rank-and-file members from more than 330 local unions across the United States, Canada, and Puerto Rico.
Under O'Brien and Zuckerman's first term, the Teamsters grew to 1.3 million members, built a Strike and Defense Fund of approximately $365 million, and secured major contract wins across the union. O'Brien and Zuckerman will be sworn in for their new term in March 2027.
Local 700 has a strong relationship with the international union. General President O'Brien joined Local 700 members on the ground last year in support of assistant state's attorneys at the Cook County State's Attorney's Office in their effort to organize with Local 700 — a demonstration of the kind of hands-on, militant leadership that has defined the O'Brien-Zuckerman administration.
"The reelection of Sean O'Brien and Fred Zuckerman is good news for Teamsters everywhere, including right here at Local 700," said Local 700 President Ramon Williams. "Sean showed up for our members and the workers we're fighting to represent. That's the kind of leadership that makes the whole labor movement stronger, and we're proud to stand with them for another five years."
